Midnight World Pop Scout-22: Ronika; Horse Meat Disco; Hermanos Inglesos

Get on your dancing shoes! MWPS edition 22 is an all European electronic dance party. If you've been lying in the sun today, you no doubt need the exercise.

Ronika is a young lady who produces, sings, and remixes at her home in Nottingham, UK. The music is synthpop, but Ronika bases her efforts on a delightfully funky groove, so I guess I'd call it soul house music. Ronika is not signed to a label.

Horse Meat Disco is a DJ collective based in London. This week they released Horse Meat Disco III, a two-CD album comprising mixes of disco, boogie, electro and other dance grooves, mostly from the 1980s. According to the blurb from their label, Strut Records, the tracks represent an after-hours type of disco known as Sleaze. The DJs participating in the project are James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Severino and Luke Howard.

Here is a minimix of the album.

For the second week in a row, we feature a Belgian act, this one is a DJ duo known as Hermanos Inglesos. In this case, the DJs are brothers Cedric and Didier Engels, who seem very fond of deep, fat basslines. They have released an LP on the PIAS label and a number of EPs, singles and remixes. It seems to me that these boys make music for the sweaty dancefloor, so get on your feet, turn up the speakers and get the neighborhood moving!
