New Metal track - Pentral: “ All My Wounds”

Pentral is a Brazilian band playing a slightly different turn on heavy metal. They sing in English and are up front about the message in their music. They are heavy, but melodic. Like most bands, they stand at an intersection between their local (Amazon region) influences and the global music genre they are a part of. And their concerns, while also local, are universal - what is changing, what’s been taken away, and how to cope with forces you cannot hope to counteract alone.

Or you can just turn it up and throw your hair around. Like all good metal, this is conducive to that. Their latest song is “All My Wounds”, a strong, fast-paced drum-driven track. They’re excellent musicians and play well together. Producer is Tim Palmer, who’s worked with, among others, Ozzy Osbourne and Pearl Jam.

It’s from a forthcoming album What Lies Ahead of Us - available to pre-order now, due for release on May 7.

New Psych/Metal Discovery: Black Science - An Echo Through The Eyes Of Forever

Black Science is playing a wild psychedelic guitar rock, and on their album An Echo Through The Eyes Of Forever, they have done a thing guaranteed to endear them to WYMA's staff - they have covered a Guided by Voices song ("Hardcore UFOs").

It's noisy stuff with metallic guitars, although on the 15:00-plus album closer "Our Sentence Is Up", they bring in what I might describe as krautrock elements in between some full-scale guitar freakouts.

Check out the album here:

And their previous album Cosmodemonic And Beyond is available for "name your price" via Bandcamp - it sounds heavier to me - at least on first listen.

Recommended if you like guitars...

Introducing: Driving Mrs. Satan

Driving Mrs. Satan is an band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, with a novel idea: Take heavy metal songs and present them as indie pop.  The members of the band are Claudia Sorvillo (vocals), Ernesto Nobili (guitar), and Giacomo Pedicini (double bass).  In my opinion, it is a fun concept, but more important, it is good music.  Try out their cover of Black Sabbath's "Never Say Die" --

And they haven't forgotten the importance of AC/DC to the heavy metal genre, so here is "Hells Bells":

I'll close with the band's cover of Helloween's "I Want Out". I'm especially fond of this one.

The music of Driving Mrs. Satan can be found at the band page at several of the links below, so I encourage you to explore, and to keep these metalheads in mind.
